Regain your confidence with physician-administered Botox for hyperhidrosis at Skinnova Medical & Aesthetics Clinic in Hamilton, Ontario. If excessive sweating is affecting your daily life, soaking through clothing, limiting your activities, or causing ongoing embarrassment — Botox injections offer a clinically proven, non-surgical solution with results that can last 6 to 12 months.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating especially when the body needs for temperature regulation. It most commonly affects the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), palms, feet, and forehead, and can significantly impact quality of life even when antiperspirants and other treatments have failed. Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is a Health Canada-approved treatment for primary axillary hyperhidrosis — excessive underarm sweating.

When injected into the affected area, Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that trigger sweat glands, dramatically reducing sweating in the treated area.

The treatment does not affect your body’s ability to regulate temperature elsewhere. The effect typically lasts for 6 to 12 months.

At Skinnova’s Hamilton clinic, all Botox treatments for hyperhidrosis are performed  by our licensed physicians, Dr. Neagoe, Dr. De, Dr. Coulson and Dr. Boychuk — ensuring both safety and clinical precision.

Things to know

How Does Botox for Hyperhidrosis Work?

Botox injections work by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine — the chemical that signals sweat glands to activate. When injected in small, precise amounts into the skin of the underarms, Botox interrupts this signal, significantly reducing sweat production in the treated area for 6-12 months. The treatment is minimally invasive,

requires no incisions, and involves no general anesthesia. Hamilton patients typically resume normal activities the same day.

What to Expect at SKINNOVA

Your appointment begins with a consultation to explore the cause of your hyperhidrosis (primary vs. secondary), assess the severity and review treatment options. Treatment options for hyperhidrosis include topical agents, oral pills, iontophoresis, Botox and surgery (not offered at our clinic). Once it is confirmed that Botox is the right treatment for you, Botox is injected in a grid pattern across the treatment area using a very fine needle. Sessions typically take 10-15 minutes depending on the area being treated. A topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to maximize comfort.

After Treatment

Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites is normal and typically resolves within a few hours. Most Hamilton patients notice a significant reduction in sweating within two weeks of treatment. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas, and excessive heat for 24hours following treatment.

Results

Results for axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis typically last 6 to 12 months. Repeat treatments are recommended before sweating returns to maintain consistent results. Over time, some patients find that repeated treatments produce progressively longer-lasting results.

have a question?

Quick answers to questions you may have

Is Botox for hyperhidrosis covered by OHIP or insurance in Ontario?

OHIP does not cover Botox for hyperhidrosis. However, many private insurance plans in Ontario do cover this treatment when it is prescribed by a physician and documented as medically necessary. We recommend checking with your insurance provider. Skinnova’s physicians can provide appropriate documentation to support an insurance claim.

Does Botox for hyperhidrosis hurt?

The needles used are very fine, and most Hamilton patients tolerate the treatment well. A topical

anesthetic cream can be applied 20–30 minutes before treatment to further reduce discomfort.

How long before I see results?

Most patients notice a significant reduction in sweating within 5 to 14 days of treatment. Full results are typically noticed within two weeks.

Can I combine hyperhidrosis treatment with cosmetic Botox?

Yes. Many Skinnova patients in Hamilton combine hyperhidrosis treatment with cosmetic neuromodulator treatments (such as Botox for forehead lines or frown lines) in the same appointment.

Your physician will advise on appropriate dosing and timing.

Is there downtime?

No. Most patients return to their regular activities immediately following treatment. We ask that you avoid heavy exercise and heat for 24 hours post-treatment.
