Neuromodulators (ie. Botox and Dysport) are a quick, effective way to soften dynamic lines and wrinkles, giving your face a refreshed, youthful look without surgery or downtime. Whether it’s crow’s feet, frown lines, or forehead creases, neuromodulators can smooth your expression while keeping you looking natural when injected by a trained board-certified physician.
At Skinnova, all neuromodulator injections are performed by trained physicians.
A small amount of purified neuromodulator (such as Botox or Dysport) is injected into specific muscles to temporarily relax and weaken them. This reduces or eliminates active wrinkles in the overlying skin.
Results typically begin to appear within 2-3 days, reach full effect within 14 days, and last approximately 4 months. After this period, muscle movement gradually returns, and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results. The duration of effectiveness may vary somewhat each time a treatment is completed.
Neuromodulators are most effective for treating dynamic facial lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement, particularly on the upper face. However, wrinkles caused by skin sagging, typically found in the mid and lower face, do not respond to these treatments. Dynamic wrinkles visible at rest may be softened but will not completely disappear. Additional treatments, such as dermal fillers, may be considered for further improvement.
Although rare, side effects of neuromodulator treatment may include transient headaches, swelling, pain at the injection site, asymmetry (uneven results), infection and bruising. To reduce the risk of bruising, avoid substances such as caffeine, alcohol, aspirin, and NSAIDs (e.g., Advil, Motrin) for at least 72 hours before and after the procedure.
In very rare cases, treatment of frown lines (“11s”) may cause temporary drooping of one eyelid, lasting 2-3 weeks. To minimize this risk, avoid lying down, bending forward for extended periods, or touching the treated area for at least 4 hours after treatment.
There is a potential for neuromodulators to interact with general anesthetic. It is therefore recommended to wait at least one week between neuromodulator treatment and general anesthesia.
Botox and Dysport injections are not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or have certain neurological conditions such as myasthenia gravis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome, and motor neuron disease (like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Neuromodulators are ideal for patients seeking to enhance their facial appearance without surgery. Yes. When administered by a trained physician, neuromodulators (such as Botox and Dysport) are a safe, Health-Canada approved treatment with a long history of clinical use and excellent results.
Not at all. When performed by experienced injectors, Botox delivers natural-looking results, allowing you to express yourself while minimizing unwanted lines.
Results typically last 3 to 4 months, depending on your skin type, metabolism, and treatment area. Regular maintenance sessions help sustain your results.
