Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation procedure performed by our dermatology team at our Hamilton and Stoney Creek skin clinic. Using a diamond-tip applicator with controlled vacuum suction, this treatment gently removes dead skin cells, enhances texture and tone, and stimulates collagen production.

Microdermabrasion: Your Skin’s Fresh Start

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses a diamond-tip wand with vacuum suction to gently remove dead skin cells, oil buildup, and clogged pores. This process helps stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin, improving skin texture and appearance.

How it Works

About the Treatment

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses a diamond-tip wand and vacuum suction to exfoliate the skin, clearing away dead cells, excess oil, and clogged pores.

This rejuvenating process promotes new collagen and elastin production, revealing smoother, healthier, and more radiant skin.

Risks, Side Effects & Complications

After treatment, the skin may feel tight, similar to after sun or wind exposure.

Most side effects are mild and temporary, with redness usually fading within 48 hours.

Rare but possible side effects include:

  • Significant redness, swelling, or bruising
  • Stinging, tenderness, or dryness
  • Flaking skin
  • Temporary skin lightening or darkening

If these occur, healing may take up to 14 days.

Since the treatment removes the outer layer of skin, there is a small risk of bacterial or viral infection.

If you have a history of cold sores, it’s recommended you take antiviral medication starting the day before treatment to prevent an outbreak.

Please inform your aesthetician if you are prone to cold sores so the doctor can prescribe the necessary medication.

If you suspect a cold sore may be developing within a week after treatment, contact our office immediately.

Precautions & Warnings
  • Stop using glycolic acid, AHAs, and retinol/retinoid products at least 24 hours before treatment.

Avoid direct sun exposure for two weeks after treatment.

Apply a moisturizing sunscreen with at least SPF 50 (such as Vivier or SkinCeuticals) daily to protect your skin.
